Tuscan Estate
Set within the hills above Montecito, this Tuscan-inspired estate was conceived as a retreat that fully embraces its extraordinary setting. Positioned along the ridgeline to capture sweeping 180-degree panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, the home is carefully oriented to frame long vistas through courtyards, terraces, and large expanses of glazing. The approach unfolds gradually, guiding visitors through a sequence of landscaped gardens, stone walls, and arched passages that create a sense of arrival while revealing glimpses of the horizon beyond.
The architectural language draws from traditional Tuscan precedents, interpreted through a refined and regionally grounded lens. Textured stone masses, warm plaster finishes, clay tile roofs, and deeply recessed arched entries establish a timeless character that feels rooted in place. Vertical cypress plantings, vine-covered pergolas, and layered garden spaces soften the architecture and strengthen the connection between the built form and the surrounding terrain. The composition of interconnected volumes creates intimate courtyards and outdoor rooms while maintaining strong axial views toward the ocean.
Indoor–outdoor living was central to the design concept. Terraces, balconies, and covered loggias extend the primary living spaces outward, allowing the home to engage the landscape and climate throughout the day. From elevated decks overlooking the coastline to shaded gathering areas framed by masonry and greenery, each space was designed to balance privacy, light, and openness. The estate reads as a collection of carefully proportioned structures unified by material continuity and consistent architectural vocabulary.
DMHA Architecture served as Architect of Record for the project, with Moritz Willen acting as Vice President, Senior Designer, and Project Manager.
