Montecito Estate

This Montecito residence reinterprets traditional Spanish Colonial architecture through a refined and contemporary lens, grounding the home in its Santa Barbara context while responding to modern living. The massing is composed of interconnected volumes organized around a central courtyard, creating a clear sense of arrival and a strong indoor-outdoor connection. White plaster walls, clay tile roofs, deep arches, and carefully proportioned openings establish a familiar architectural language, while clean detailing, restrained ornamentation, and expansive glazing give the home a lighter, more current expression.

From the sheltered entry court to the open pool terrace and landscaped grounds beyond, the site design and house architecture work together to create a sequence of spaces that feel both intimate and expansive. Living spaces extend naturally outdoors, reinforcing Montecito’s climate and lifestyle, while the composition of forms provides privacy, shade, and framed views across the property. DMHA Architecture served as Architect of Record for the project, with Moritz Willen acting as Vice President, Senior Designer, and Project Manager.
